Wee bit Wednesday v 43 and other musings

{one} what's your guilty pleasure tv show?
Some mornings I look in the mirror and I don't even recognise myself anymore...but it's Eastenders. Cannot get enough of it.

{two} ear piercings on men: yes or no?
Not really bothered, to be honest!

{three} do you have dish or comcast?
I don't speak your crazy language. Um. I presume you're talking about how I recieve Eastenders through my telebox? We have Virgin. Is so much better than Sky....

{four} what's your favorite current fashion trend?
Tunics, and long length stuff in general. Makes it so much easier for a big tall girl like me to look presentable!

{five} if you could learn to do anything, money not being an issue, what would it be?
How to make REAL jewellery. Like...not just wrapping wire around stuff, but silversmithing and working with precious gemstones and set them in rings I've made from scratch. You know what I mean. Hard core jeweller stuff.

{six} red or white wine?
I prefer sweet white german wines. Apparently that is so obvious that it's been pointed out to me on at least three occasions by different people before they even order. Am I really that much of a wine wuss? Anyhow, I had a lovely fruity red the other day, a shame I only realised how delicious it was after I'd used most of it in a bolognaise sauce, but we got a nice little whiff of it left over to go with dinner too!

{seven} what type of food is your favorite (ex. italian, mexican, etc.)
Well if we're going soley on country of origin, there's nothing quite like our stodgey old British fare! But if I had to choose, it would be French followed very closely by Spanish (which only comes second because Spanish food uses way too much rice for my liking and I cannot eat rice)

{eight} hp or mac?
Never used a mac in my life and have no reason to. However, why is HP the only other option? Just anything that isn't a mac will do for me!

{nine} what color is your bedroom?
Black and white. Mostly white. The black is the mould garden that we're growing on the outside facing wall.

{ten} what's your favorite form of exercise?
I really don't have a favourite exercise because I really don't exercise enough, so I'm going to be very immature and saw "bow chicka bow wow" and leave it at that.

I'm absoloutely shattered at the minute, but in a good way. There no longer seems to be enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do, but that has to be good because before there were way too many hours and I still didn't do it, so now there are fewer I'm prompted to spend more of those few hours actually doing things that I want to...although that probably makes no sense at all to anyone but me!

Anyhow, yesterday was the only day all this entire week in which I got home before ten o clock (I got in at 9:45). I'm beginning to wonder at the wisdom of everything I've taken on but I have to remind myself it's only this one week. If work hadn't demanded I be in to meet our training coordinators on my day off I wouldn't be in this position, and anything ChildLine related I only have myself to blame for. I have to head out to work in ten minutes and once I finish work I get to come home, change clothes, put on the washer then head out for an observation shift that lasts from quarter to six till ten o clock tonight. I could have gone to one last night, but then I wouldn't have gotten out until half one in the morning!

The training for ChildLine is, on the whole, a rather enjoyable experience. Everyone is lovely and extremely thoughtful and intelligent. It is a wonderful contrast to the punters I deal with at work who can be lovely but can also be aggressive, drunk, generally disorderly, and of the opinion that it is quite alright to leave bodily excretions of varying natures around the shop (I have had the unpleasant duty of dealing with two such excretions). Not that everyone is like that at all! On the whole I enjoy the work, and those cases are the extreme...but I've been told that so far I've had it easy. I find that difficult to dispute from some of the stories I've been told. We deal with cash, so it's a very high strung atmosphere where mistrust and suspicion can grow rife if you let it; already I've heard rumours of at least two people stealing. I've no reason to believe either but you can't be too careful. I watch my every step and jump at my own shadow.

ChildLine is a different kettle of fish altogether. Tonight, as I said, I get to sit and listen in to calls with one of the counsellors. Anything could happen and I'm prepared to have to hear some disturbing information based on our training so far, although training has also taught me that a lot of calls are just "testing" the service. However the children use the service or whatever they ask, the support from supervisors and my fellow trainees is already wonderful. In fact in some ways I feel like a very tiny fish in a massive pond; for example, last night we were role playing some sticky situations and I was grouped with a middle aged woman and an older man, both with experience of this kind of work before (she on her last year of a degree which will take her into a career with child protection services, he having worked with a charity providing a similar service to ChildLine but specifically for young folk having questions about their sexuality and gender identity). Whilst none of us were perfect they seemed so much better equipped than I for this and that's a bit intimidating. Not that it's a competition at all, because it isn't, but still I feel like I could be as young and inexperienced as the children we've been role playing as in their face. At the same time, they've been nothing but supportive and generous towards me with their feedback, and have told me they were quite impressed with my mad counselling skillz.

Counselling skillz that are really quite difficult to aquire because you have to let go of everything that you hold onto instinctively when someone comes to cry on your shoulder or ask advice...but that is an entirely different blog post!

For now I really do have to get going. Half way through the week now, though who knows what next week is going to be like - I havent even got my rota yet!

Wee Bit Wednesday v51 and Interview Success

{one} what is your dream job?

Volcanologist, however I have neither the brains nor the body for that!

{two} how many best friends do you have?

I don't have a huge massive circle of friends, and so the ones that I have are really close and special to me. However, if I had to give a definitive number I'd say two.

{three} what’s the longest road trip you’ve ever taken?

Durham UK to Alicante Spain...we did it twice in fact. Something about my parents wanting to save money on air fares and care hire (there were five of us after all, and on the way back the first time round we brought my God mother and her daughters back with us so they could visit their family). This saving of the money was misplaced, but it was an amazing experience none the less!

{four} if you had to do one single thing every day for the next year, what would it be?

Something involving Ben, if you catch my drift *BOW CHICKA BOW WOW*

{five} what’s one story your family always tells about you?

My mum keeps telling everyone what a horrible, moody bitch I was when I was a teenager. I can't say she's wrong. My Granny on the other hand likes to tell cuter stories about how I would go around making songs up and shout at anyone who tried to sing nursery rhymes along with me cause, you know, I love the sound of my own voice and wanted to be centre stage. All very endearing stuff.

{six} how did your parents pick your name?

Well, they were actually going to call me Rachel but shortly before I was born dad decided he suddenly didn't like it (something about a card game called Rachel?) so they switched to Rebecca. Awful lot of good it did of course because people still call me Rachel for some strange and unknown reason..

{seven} what’s the one thing that scares you more than anything?

Aliens, medical needles, demonic possesion, death, steep hills (Yet another reason why I will never work my dream job :p)....take your pick, but I cannot choose just one!

{eight} are you a good cook?

I don't blow my trumpet about much...but yes...yes I am a good cook.

{nine} where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I haven't a bloody clue. I know where I would like to be, but I'm too much of a pessimist realist to say that's where I honestly see myself.

{ten} what’s your best childhood memory?

Psychologists reckon we tend to hold onto the bad memories more than good ones, as a hangover from our having to remember that when a mammoth sticks his tusk in you, it hurts and you're going to die. I can't really pin point any particularly epic childhood memory. Don't get me wrong, I didn't have a horrific childhood, I grew up in a loving, secure home surrounded by my family and my siblings and I never really fought or anything like that. I just don't recall any specifically brilliant memories from childhood. Ask me about my best memories from adolescence one day and then we'll get talking :D

In other news, I had my telephone interview today. Indeed, it finished about an hour ago. It was possibly the worst telephone interview I've ever had, I mumbled, I stuttered and stammered and ummed and aahed and my head really just wasn't into it at all. I practically shouted HELLO down the line at him, and I couldn't squirm out of the fact that I have a crap less than desirable employment history.

Despite it all, he's invited me back for the next round of interviews, an hour long do this Friday. Part of me is thinking that last time I got past a telephone interview and into the real deal they didn't call me back, someone else was just better than me. Part of me is trying to protect myself from dissapointment. That said, I have to wonder if someone isn't looking out for me...for a start, I know for a fine fact that my telephone interview was beyond poor, however I got through. Then there's the timing, it's just so perfect, yesterday Ben won some vouchers at work for good performance that we can now use to pay for our groceries on Friday, but if he hadn't won those vouchers I wouldn't actually be able to afford to go...I probably would have been able to beg/borrow/steal from someone somewhere in a pinch, but I like to take signs like that as something of a moral boost!

I was a little shocked to say the least when I recieved the email telling me where the interview was to be held. Earlier I couldn't remember which of their stores the position was for, so I logged back on and saw that it just said "Anfield". I checked the store finder and saw that there are about five different stores in Anfield, all within walking distance from myself (and when I say within walking distance, I mean it's practically next door, walking distance for me is a pretty damned short distance!). Yet the interview is all the way out in Huyton...which means nothing to anyone who doesn't know Liverpool I know, but it's basically gonna take me 30 minutes on the bus. Well, technically it's going to take longer, since this is only the interview and not the location of the job I'm gonna take the "I'm a scardy cat" route out of it and bus into town first and grab my bus from there rather than trying to intercept it...besides, less risky of buses missing each other then ^_^

So anyhow, I've rambled on way too much now so I shall leave you be...wish me luck for Friday, cause I really could do with this job!

Wee bit wednesday v48

{one} how many times have you been a bridesmaid/maid of honor?
Just once when I was about 3 year old, I was my Godmothers flower girl

{two} what’s the last thing your do before you fall asleep at night?
Snuggle into Ben of course!

{three} you just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. where are you going?
Don't make me choose! Well all expenses paid, I would have to go somewhere I wouldn't otherwise get the money to go so probably a tour of a far flung country in the far east. Japan, or perhaps Singapore or Hong Kong. Alternately, I could opt for a long road trip of the USA and stay in only the swankiest places. So many choices!

{four} what is your favorite outdoor activity?
Does gardening count as an outdoor activity? I haven't got a garden, but when I do, it will be as active as I get!

{five} as a child, what did you want to “be when you grew up”? did you end up there?
All sorts. A doctor. A vet. A hairdresser. I went through a long phase of wanting to be an Egyptologist, and a long phase of wanting to be a Volcanologist. I never got there.

{six} what are 3 things your dream home would have that you don’t currently have?
A garden, a fully equiped studio, an Avery

{seven} what’s for dinner tonight?
Chicken and ham tortillioni with tomato sauce

{eight} if someone stopped by your house unannounced on a typical Saturday night, what would they find you doing?
Watching Doctor Who! Or if that was not on, probably playing on the Xbox!

{nine} what’s your average monthly water bill?
About £20 methinks

{ten} what do you do to relax?
Watch a movie, play the Xbox, make pretties ^_^

Wee bit wednesday (1)

{one} have you ever fainted?
Once, when I was getting blood taken. My veins were, usually for that period in my life for some reason unknown to all, rather dry and not feeling too generous. I don't like needles, though a slew of hormonal tests over the past five years has toughened me up to them now. Back then it was a rare and horrific occasion. The nurse prodded and poked and twisted and squezed. Eventually she got a pump out to pump the blood right out of my arm! At this point I'd had just about enough and that was that.

{two} what is your favorite casino game?
Never been to a casino.

{three} do you have a good sense of direction?
Yes, although I will admit there have been a few times when it has failed me!

{four} laptop or desktop?
I prefer the setup of a desktop but currently my laptop is the better of the two and I haven't even touched the desktop since the laptop came into our care at Xmas.

{five} what is your go-to hair style when having a bad hair day?
Push back my fringe with a hairband and tie the ends back in a ponytail.

{six} do you read the newspaper on a daily basis?
No, but I watch the 6 o clock news every day and usually have the beeb's news site on in the backround when on the internet.

{seven} do you have a favorite celebrity chef?
Probably Jamie Oliver, though I think Gordon Ramsey is more entertaining.

{eight} what tv show would you like to make a guest appearance on?
True Blood. I'd make an awesome Maenad.

{nine} do you have satellite radio in your car?
Nope. I don’t have a car.

{ten} what was the last movie that made you cry?
I watched "Anna and the King" yesterday while doing some repair work to Ben's rain coat. Can't count the number of times I've watched that film, and can't tell you how little of it I actually saw since I was concentrating on sewing in a straight line, but I still bawled like a baby when Princess Fa-Ying died, and again when the King asks her to dance at the very end and the voice over is all "yeah he's dancing with the woman he loves but she's just a teacher so they can't be together" *weep*
